Crypto lender Nexo is exploring three options to offer its crypto-backed loans in the US, the company's co-founder and managing partner Antoni Trenchev told CoinDesk.
The company is considering acquiring a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)-licensed broker dealer, partnering with a nationally chartered bank, or applying for an exemption to offer securities to non-accredited investors.
"We're following the developments very closely," Trenchev said. "When I say we, I mean both the legal team internally at Nexo and also the law firms we retain in the United States."
Nexo is a major player in the crypto lending space, with over $10 billion in assets under management. The company offers both a lending product and a depository yield-earning product that is powered by the interest rates that it charges on the lending side of the house.
Other crypto lenders, such as Celsius, BlockFi, and Ledn, also offer both a lending product and a depository yield-earning product. However, some lenders, such as Unchained Capital, do not offer depository accounts and therefore no yield on deposits.
Coinbase, the largest US cryptocurrency exchange, said on Friday that it no longer plans to offer a lending product that would have powered a savings account for customers with a 4% annual percentage yield.
