Morgan Stanley's research arm said that the number of crypto-related hedge funds has surged 84% in 2017, reaching a total of 106 funds.
The sharp growth coincides with bitcoin's more than 20-fold price increase this year, from around $800 in early January to a high of nearly $20,000 last weekend.
As reported this week, legendary hedge fund manager Bill Miller said that his MVP1 Fund now puts nearly 50 percent of its weight on bitcoin and bitcoin cash.
