Dịch vụ Hải quan Hàn Quốc (KCS) sẽ xem xét sự an toàn của những người khai thác tiền điện tử được nhập khẩu vào nước này, với lý do lo ngại về rủi ro hỏa hoạn.
KCS cho biết hôm thứ Hai rằng họ sẽ kiểm tra các vấn đề an toàn của các công ty khai thác tiền điện tử nhập khẩu dựa trên luật phát thanh hiện hành, cũng như các yêu cầu an toàn đối với hàng hóa điện tử do Cơ quan nghiên cứu phát thanh quốc gia đưa ra.
Động thái này được đưa ra sau khi KCS lưu ý số lượng người khai thác tiền điện tử ngày càng nhập khẩu vào Hàn Quốc.Chỉ riêng trong tháng 11 và tháng 12 năm 2017, KCS ghi nhận nhập khẩu 454 chip khai thác với giá trị ước tính là 1,3 tỷ người Hàn Quốc đã giành được (1,2 triệu đô la).
Do mức tiêu thụ điện đáng kể của họ và sản phẩm phụ được sưởi ấm liên quan, việc sử dụng các công ty khai thác làm tăng mối lo ngại tại cơ quan về việc liệu chúng có mang lại khả năng cao về các sự cố hỏa hoạn hay không.

**South Korea's Customs Agency to Scrutinize Cryptocurrency Miners Over Fire Risk**
The Korea Customs Service (KCS) will look into the safety of cryptocurrency miners imported into the country, citing concerns over fire risks.
The KCS said on Monday that it will examine the safety issues of imported cryptocurrency miners based on the existing radio legislation, as well as the safety requirements for electronic goods put out by the National Radio Research Agency.
The move comes after the KCS noted the increasing amount of cryptocurrency miners imported into South Korea. In November and December 2017 alone, the KCS noted imports of 454 mining chips at an estimated value of 1.3 billion Korean won ($1.2 million).
Due to their significant electricity consumption and associated heating byproduct, the use of miners raises concerns at the agency over whether they bring a high possibility of fire incidents.
The increased technical scrutiny comes at a time when public and private sectors in South Korea have been moving to halt allegedly illegal mining activities, especially in public spaces due to concerns over electricity consumption and fire risk.
As reported by CoinDesk, earlier this month Korean police busted 14 people from 13 companies who had allegedly used cheap electricity provided by a provincial government to mine cryptocurrencies.
And, in August of last year, an electronics retail marketplace in Seoul also banned its stores from mining cryptocurrencies inside the building due to fire concerns.
