**JPMorgan Chase Says It's Completed First Live Blockchain-Based Repo Trade**
JPMorgan Chase said on Tuesday it has completed the first live blockchain-based repo trade with two of its major trading partners, Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon.
The transaction was settled using the bank's blockchain platform Onyx and its stablecoin JPM Coin.
A repo trade is a short-term transaction in which a financial institution sells securities to another party with an agreement to buy them back at a later date.
The blockchain application used by JPMorgan Chase was developed in-house and is said to support the setting up and maintenance of such transactions in hours rather than days.
The bank said the blockchain app will be offered to external counterparties in the U.S. in the coming months.
Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon have been involved in trial trades on the platform and will be involved going forward.
Mathew McDermott, global head of digital assets at Goldman Sachs, said his institution is "looking forward to going live in early 2021."
Brian Ruane, CEO of BNY Mellon Clearance & Collateral Management, said his bank would be a "critical partner for JPMorgan to provide collateral services to market participants looking to execute intro transactions."
