**Japanese Shipping Firm MOL to Test Blockchain for Trade Finance**
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), a Japanese shipping company, has announced that it will be testing blockchain technology for trade finance.
The proof-of-concept will use the Hyperledger Fabric blockchain framework, developed by the Linux Foundation-led Hyperledger Blockchain Consortium.
MOL states that the test is intended to verify the effectiveness of blockchain for enhancing security and reducing the time to settle cross-border trade transactions, discrepancies among related documents, and administrative costs.
Aiming to increase competitiveness and develop new products via the technology, joining MOL on the project is IBM Japan, The Japan Research Institute, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and others of the Mitsu Group.
