**Bitpay Sues Insurance Company Over $950,000 in Cryptocurrency Theft**
Bitpay, a leading cryptocurrency payment processor, is suing its insurance company over a $950,000 cryptocurrency theft that occurred in 2014.
In a lawsuit filed in November, Bitpay alleges that its insurer, Munich Reinsurance America (MBIC), has refused to cover the loss, claiming that the theft was not covered under the policy.
Bitpay says that the theft occurred when hackers compromised the computer of BTC Media CEO David Bailey and used his credentials to steal the credentials of a senior Bitpay executive. The hackers then used these credentials to issue three fraudulent payments totaling $950,000.
MBIC denies that it is liable for the loss, arguing that the theft was not covered under the policy because it was not “fraudulent” as defined in the policy.
Bitpay is seeking a court order to force MBIC to cover the loss, as well as damages for MBIC’s alleged bad faith in handling the claim.
The case is still pending in court.
