Tennessee has become the first state in the U.S. to recognize the legal authority of blockchain technology and smart contracts, according to a new law that was signed by Governor Bill Lee on Wednesday.
The law, which was sponsored by Representative Jason Powell, states that "no contract relating to a transaction shall be denied legal effect, validity, or enforceability solely because that contract contains a smart contract term."

Arizona's governor signed a similar measure into law last May.
