Former NBA star Scottie Pippen is launching a new NFT collection of his sneakers. The collection, called "Pippen Kicks," will feature 100 unique NFTs that represent different pairs of shoes that Pippen wore during his career.
The NFTs will be sold on the Orange Comet platform, and each one will come with a number of benefits, including access to exclusive content and events, and the chance to win prizes such as a pair of Pippen's game-worn shoes.
"I was curious about NFTs and Web3, and I wanted to learn more about them," Pippen said in a statement. "I also wanted to find a way to share my passion for sneakers with my fans."
The collection will mirror a time capsule-like series of events, drawing on pivotal points throughout Pippen's life as a player.
"They are inspired by a lot of the shoes that he's worn over his career," said Orange Comet CEO Dave Broome. "But they are new. They're futuristic."
The collection will also include a yet-to-be-revealed mystery box that NFT holders can claim next year.
In addition to the NFTs, Pippen is also offering two unique experiences to lucky fans. One NFT holder will receive a VIP tour of Pippen's hometown of Hamburg, Arkansas, including a private dinner. Two other NFT winners will get to join Pippen on the golf course, a game he has taken up over the past few years after several back surgeries.
Pippen, who told Cindesk TV that he was nervous about the world of web3 six months ago, appears to be more confident in this project.
"We think that we're bringing something different, something special, something awesome to the marketplace," Pippen said. "We feel like we're paying the trailblazers, even though we're not the first ones out of the gate."
