**Medical Society of Delaware to pilot blockchain for medical records**
The Medical Society of Delaware is set to pilot a blockchain-based system for storing and sharing patient records.
The trial will be conducted in partnership with healthcare tech startup Medscient, which itself leverages technology developed by blockchain-focused startup Symbiont.
The aim of the pilot is to test the feasibility of using blockchain to create a secure, immutable and patient-controlled record of medical history that can be accessed by authorized parties.
“We are confident that this proof-of-concept will not only address this particular pain point, but will lay the groundwork for streamlining other healthcare administrative issues as well,” said Andrew Dahlke, vice president of the Medical Society of Delaware.
The pilot is expected to run for six months, and those involved will make a presentation at the Medicaid Enterprise Systems Conference later this month in Baltimore, Maryland.
The news comes shortly after Delaware became the first U.S. state to pass a law allowing the use of blockchain to create and store business records, including stock ledgers.
