**South Korea Won't Ban Bitcoin, Will Instead Regulate Cryptocurrency Market**
The South Korean government has announced that it will not ban cryptocurrency trading, but will instead regulate the market.
The announcement was made by Jeong Ki-joon, a spokesman for the presidential office, on January 15.
Jeong said that the government will establish a committee to evaluate and propose a proposal to improve the draft of the Ministry of Justice's pre-transaction ban, as well as introduce some practical regulations to ensure the sustainable development of that segment.
The spokesman also said that the government will crack down on illegal activities in the cryptocurrency market, such as market manipulation, money laundering, and fraud.
However, the government is committed to supporting and even funding for blockchain technology development research.
