**South Korea's Dunamu eyes overseas expansion for crypto exchange Upbit**
Dunamu, the operator of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, is looking to expand its business overseas, CEO Lee Sirgoo said in an interview with local media outlet JTBC on Monday.
"We're looking to expand overseas," Lee said. "We did open shop in Southeast Asia and we are expanding our exchanges in that location."
Upbit launched its services in Thailand earlier this year after acquiring a digital asset business license from the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission in January. The exchange began its Southeast Asia expansion into Singapore in late 2018 and then later into Indonesia in early 2019.
Lee also said that Upbit is considering "various possibilities," when asked by Im whether the platform was seeking to branch into non-fungible tokens and decentralized finance. But he stopped short of providing concrete details.
Dunamu is a South Korean fintech firm that was founded in 2012. The company is also the operator of the country's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit. In 2018, Dunamu was suspected by Korean authorities of fraudulent activity for allegedly selling cryptocurrency that it did not hold. However, the company was later cleared of any wrongdoing.
