Lerner is a Russian citizen and holds a permanent residence permit in Poland. He is also involved in several cryptocurrency and blockchain startups in Ukraine.
Exmo's website says that the company is based in Polegate, England.
A representative of Exmo told local cryptocurrency magazine Forklog that the company is operating normally and that user funds are safe.
“We are doing everything we can to promote the search for Pavel Lerner. We value any information related to his current whereabouts. However, the exchange is still operating as usual. We also want to emphasize that the nature of Pavel’s work at Exmo does not allow him access to data warehouses or any user personal data. All user funds are absolutely safe.”
In a separate development, Forklog reported earlier this month that the office and residence of its CEO in Odessa, Ukraine, were raided by the Ukrainian Security Service. The investigation resulted in the seizure of equipment, including items related to both the individual and company’s cryptocurrency funds.
