At the time of writing, bitcoin is trading at $4,367, down from a high of $4,636 earlier today. The drop has wiped out $263 from the price of bitcoin in the last 24 hours.
The sell-off in bitcoin has been reflected across the wider cryptocurrency market, with most major cryptocurrencies down today. Ethereum is down 14.53%, litecoin is down 15.37%, and monero has dropped 12%.
The combined market cap for all cryptocurrencies is now $152 billion, down from a record high of around $180 billion.
