**Bafin Shuts Down German Crypto Exchange BTC-e**
The German financial regulator Bafin has ordered the closure of BTC-e, a cryptocurrency exchange based in Germany.
Bafin said in a statement that the company was not authorized to operate in Germany and that it had received complaints from users who had not received money for cryptocurrency that they had transferred to the company.
"The Bafin order is enforceable by law, but not yet final," the statement said.
At the time of writing, the BTC-e website was not operational.
This is not the first time that Bafin has taken action against cryptocurrency exchanges. In April, the regulator ordered the shutdown of a payment processor that was linked to the OneCoin cryptocurrency scheme.
OneCoin is a digital currency service that has been accused of widespread fraud and has been fined €2.6 million in Italy.
In June, Bafin issued new cease-and-desist orders to two holding companies linked to OneCoin, ordering the companies to "dismantle the internet-based OneCoin trading system."
