**GE Aviation explores blockchain for aircraft maintenance**
GE Aviation is exploring the use of blockchain technology to improve the efficiency of aircraft maintenance, according to a new patent application.
The application, filed in January, describes a system that would use blockchain to create a shared ledger of maintenance data for aircraft parts. This would allow airlines and other stakeholders to track the history of parts and ensure that they are properly maintained.
The system would also be able to automate payments for maintenance work, reducing the need for manual processing.
GE Aviation is not the first airline company to explore the use of blockchain for aircraft maintenance. In February, Air France announced that it was working on a blockchain-based system for tracking maintenance work on its aircraft.
