**Near Protocol Reduces Collateral Requirements, Adds 200+ Validators**
Near Protocol, a layer-1 proof-of-stake blockchain, has reduced its collateral requirements by 86% and added more than 200 validators to its network.
The changes are part of Near's sharding upgrade, which will split the network into smaller chains to improve scalability.
Near co-founder Illia Polosukhin said the changes will make it easier for more people to participate in the network and increase decentralization.
"The more users the network gets, the more decentralized the network gets as well," Polosukhin said.
Near's sharding upgrade is expected to be completed in 2023.
