FTX.US, the U.S. arm of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has added former Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) commissioner Jill Sommers to its board of directors.
“Adding Jill's wealth of experience in the derivatives landscape is an invaluable resource for our board as we traverse through the evolving digital asset ecosystem and its integration into the broader financial market structure,” FTX.US Derivatives CEO Zach Dexter said in a statement.
Sommers served as a commissioner at the CFTC from 2014 to 2018, and previously worked as a derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs.
FTX.US has been at the forefront of the debate over how to regulate cryptocurrency derivatives. In May, CEO Sam Bankman-Fried faced a roomful of derivatives industry giants and regulators to argue for his company’s proposal to directly clear transactions through the CFTC without traditional intermediaries.
