The Securities Commissioner of Texas filed a cease-and-desist order against BitConnect and its representatives, James Butcher and Richard Dunn, on May 8. BitConnect is a cryptocurrency lending platform that offers investors high-interest rates on their Bitcoin deposits. The company claims that it uses a proprietary trading bot to generate profits for investors. However, the Securities Commissioner alleges that BitConnect’s trading bot is a scam and that the company is simply using investor funds to pay off earlier investors.
The order prohibits BitConnect from offering its securities in Texas and requires the company to return all funds to investors who purchased its tokens. BitConnect has not yet responded to the order.
