**ErisX Secures $20 Million in Funding to Launch Crypto Derivatives Exchange**
ErisX, a cryptocurrency derivatives exchange backed by TD Ameritrade, has secured $20 million in funding from a group of investors led by Digital Currency Group.
The company plans to use the funds to build out its platform and launch spot and futures contracts for cryptocurrencies.
ErisX is the first cryptocurrency exchange to receive approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to offer futures contracts.
CEO Thomas Chippas said in a statement that the funding would go towards building up the platform and growing the ErisX team.
He added:
"With increasing financial support from leading edge firms, ErisX stands to provide the most robust, secure and regulated digital asset offering available to both institutional and individual participants."
ErisX expects to launch spot contracts in Q2 of 2019 and futures contracts in the second half of the year.
Joseph Lubin, CEO of ConsenSys, said in a statement that the new platform "is an important step in continuing the convergence of digital and traditional asset classes in global institutional financial services."
