Former StyleHaul Controller and Vice President of Accounting and Finance, Jason Blieden, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft on January 28, 2023. Blieden admitted to stealing over $10 million from StyleHaul between October 2015 and March 2019.
Blieden used the stolen money to pay for personal expenses, including his professional poker habit. He funded his poker lifestyle with cryptocurrency that he purchased with StyleHaul funds. Blieden also used StyleHaul money to buy into two poker tournaments, one for $52,000 and one for $103,000. He also paid $1.2 million in personal checks to other poker players.
In order to cover up the theft, Blieden created fake entries in StyleHaul’s books, disguising wire transfers to his account as legitimate payments to clients or as equity payments owed to him by the firm. He also forged letters from Western Union that suggested he had made wire transfers to a client who was owed money.
Blieden further admitted to aggravated identity theft by forging the signature of another StyleHaul executive in order to create the false impression that the company owned a beach-side condo in Mexico for use by clients and staff. He admitted to stealing $230,000 through this fake perk.
Blieden will face a sentencing hearing on March 20, 2023.
