**ESMA Extends Distributed Ledger Technology Taskforce Mandate**
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has extended the mandate of its distributed ledger technology (DLT) taskforce for an unspecified period of time.
Details about what the task force will do as part of its renewed mandate are not yet clear. However, in February, ESMA – which decided not to create new rules for DLT – said it planned to continue monitoring the space. The task force is likely to be the focal point for those observations.
“ESMA will continue to monitor market developments around [DLT] to assess whether a regulatory response may be needed,” the agency said at the time.
The task force was first disclosed last year, with members drawn from ESMA’s ranks as well as the European Central Bank and the European Commission.
