**New EU rules for crypto trading require firms to prove staff know what they're doing**
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published new guidance on how firms that want to offer crypto trading services to retail investors must demonstrate that their staff have the necessary knowledge.
The guidance says that firms must be able to show that their staff have a "sufficient level of knowledge" of how DLT (distributed ledger technology) works, as well as the risks associated with crypto trading.
This is in addition to the existing requirements for firms to have adequate risk management systems and procedures in place.
The new rules come into effect in March 2023.
