**EPAM to Develop Second Implementation of OpenVASP Protocol for Crypto-Asset Transactions**
EPAM Systems, a global leader in software engineering services and digital transformation, today announced that it will develop a second implementation of the OpenVASP protocol for crypto-asset transactions. The OpenVASP protocol is an open-source protocol that allows for the secure communication of sender and beneficiary information for crypto-asset transactions between VASPs.
The FATF's Travel Rule, which was updated in June 2019, requires VASPs to collect and share information about the sender and beneficiary of crypto-asset transactions. This has created a compliance burden for VASPs, as well as raised concerns about privacy.
The OpenVASP protocol seeks to address these concerns by providing a clear and transparent way for VASPs to comply with the Travel Rule. EPAM's implementation of the OpenVASP protocol will be based on the C# implementation that is being developed by OpenVASP founders such as Bitcoin Suisse, Lykke, Seba Bank, Sygnum Bank, MME Legal and Avaloq.
"With alternative crypto assets becoming more mainstream, there is a need in the market to align investors, market participants and regulators to a common standard," said Balazs Fejes, Co-Head of Global Business at EPAM. "OpenVASP provides a transparent, trusted protocol for reporting crypto-asset transactions, and we are pleased to partner with the association to support the open-source community and provide an innovative solution to this challenge."
EPAM's implementation of the OpenVASP protocol is expected to be completed in Q4 2022.
