The Fitzwilliam Museum is delighted to announce the opening of English Ceramics: 250 years of collecting at the Fitzwilliam, a major new exhibition exploring the history of collecting English ceramics at the Museum.
The exhibition will feature over 300 objects from the Fitzwilliam’s world-renowned collection of English ceramics, including rare and important pieces from the 16th century to the present day.
Highlights of the exhibition include:
* A rare 16th-century Delftware jug, one of the earliest pieces in the Fitzwilliam’s collection
* A magnificent 18th-century Chelsea porcelain teapot, decorated with a scene of the Battle of Blenheim
* A stunning 19th-century Wedgwood Jasperware vase, depicting a classical scene
The exhibition will also explore the different ways in which English ceramics have been collected over the centuries, from aristocratic cabinets of curiosities to the more democratic displays of public museums.
English Ceramics: 250 years of collecting at the Fitzwilliam is open from 11 February to 19 June 2023.
