**Dutch IT Firm to Pay Employees in Bitcoin**
Amsterdam-based IT firm Bit4U announced today that it will pay its employees their vacation pay in Bitcoin. The company has reportedly been mining Bitcoin since 2010, and has now accumulated enough of the digital currency to begin using it for payroll.
Employees were initially reluctant to accept Bitcoin, but after several informational meetings, "they are almost all convinced of the benefits," the company said in a statement.
In the Netherlands, workers receive two bonus payments on top of their regular salary each year: a Christmas bonus and a summer bonus that is paid in May or June. The summer holiday pay comes to around 8 percent of a worker's gross annual salary.
This is not the first time that a company has paid employees in Bitcoin. In 2014, American software company BitPay began offering its employees the option to receive their salaries in Bitcoin. And in 2015, the Canadian company Interac began offering Bitcoin as a payment option for its customers.
As the price of Bitcoin continues to rise, it is becoming more and more attractive for businesses to accept it as a form of payment. This is especially true for businesses that cater to a tech-savvy clientele.
