**DTCC Launches Pilot Program to Test Use of Blockchain for Securities Settlement**
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has launched a pilot program to test the use of blockchain technology for securities settlement.
The first phase of the project will support bilateral delivery-versus-payment (DVP) transactions that will be initiated by participants in the pilot program through nodes hosted by DTCC. The transactions will be processed through the ProjectION platform and then passed to DTCC's existing systems for settlement processing.
"Cryptocurrency, digitized assets, DLT and other innovations are increasingly integral parts of the evolving financial services industry, and we are excited about the future opportunity in each of these areas," said Murray Pozmanter, head of DTCC's ICE and Global Business Operations.
"ProjectION has demonstrated that settlement in a T+1 or T+0 environment is an effective use case for DLT, and we look forward to working with our clients and the industry to launch the new platform," he said, referring to the number of days it takes for a trade to settle. T+1 is a trade that is settled a day after the trade is made, for example.
The pilot program is expected to run for six months and will involve a select group of DTCC clients. If successful, DTCC plans to launch a commercial version of the platform in 2023.
