Decentralized exchange protocol 0x won the $10,000 grand prize at the CME Ventures Blockchain Hackathon in New York City on Wednesday.
The startup, which was founded in 2016, beat out five other finalists to take the top prize. CME Ventures, the venture arm of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, hosted the hackathon in partnership with CoinDesk.
“We’re thrilled to have been selected as the winners of the CME Ventures Blockchain Hackathon,” said Will Warren, 0x’s co-founder and CEO. “This is a major validation of our work on the 0x protocol, and we’re grateful for the support of CME Ventures and CoinDesk.”
0x is a decentralized exchange protocol that allows for the peer-to-peer exchange of Ethereum-based tokens. The protocol is designed to be interoperable with other decentralized applications, and it does not require users to deposit funds into a central exchange.
“Decentralized token exchanges already exist on Ethereum, but they are all incompatible with one another,” Warren said during his pitch. “The 0x protocol, he argued, is a building block that envisions a greater degree of interoperability between multiple applications.”
