ErisX, a cryptocurrency derivatives exchange, has launched ether futures and received a BitLicense from New York financial regulators.
The ether futures, which are cash-settled and based on the CME Group’s Ether Reference Rate, began trading on ErisX on May 27. The BitLicense was granted by the New York State Department of Financial Services on May 10.
Volumes on ErisX bitcoin and ether futures have remained consistently low since early this year. In April, the exchange’s average daily bitcoin futures volume was just 11 contracts, while its average daily ether futures volume was 15 contracts.
