**Deloitte opens blockchain lab in New York to work with financial institutions**
Deloitte has opened a blockchain lab in New York City to work with financial institutions on developing applications for the technology.
The lab will be based in Deloitte’s Manhattan office and will be staffed with more than 20 developers and specialists.
Deloitte said that it will work with companies from other sectors as well, but that its initial focus will be on the financial services industry.
The firm has already worked with a number of companies in the finance space, including a group of Japanese banks that undertook an interbank payments trial using blockchain.
“Financial institutions have the power and ability to move blockchain to the next level,” said Eric Piscini, a principal at Deloitte. “To get there, companies will need to move away from churning out proofs of concept and begin producing and implementing solutions. That’s a big part of the goal with Deloitte’s blockchain lab.”
The New York lab is the first of several further labs focused on blockchain development that the firm has scheduled for launch over the course of 2017.
