**NSD and Strate to collaborate on blockchain and distributed ledgers**
The National Settlement Depository (NSD) and Strate have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development and implementation of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
The MoU will see the two organisations share information related to the standardization and regulation of blockchain and distributed ledgers. It will also explore potential areas of collaboration, such as the development of prototype solutions for post-trade processing.
“I think that post-trading may become the starting point of transition of the distributed ledger technology and blockchain from theory to practice,” said Eddie Astanin, Chairman of the NSD’s Executive Board.
The NSD’s announcement follows an April statement that it would trial a blockchain prototype for proxy voting. The move positioned the NSD as one of the more progressive early movers on the technology.
Other initiatives have so far been announced by the DTCC in the US and the Korea Securities Depository in South Korea.
