**ED Raids CoinSwitch Kuber for FEMA Violations, Freezes $8.1M**
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided cryptocurrency exchange CoinSwitch Kuber and frozen $8.1 million in its bank accounts. The ED is investigating CoinSwitch Kuber for alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
"We are looking into multiple possible violations under FEMA and other entities that are connected to it," an ED official said. "Since we were not receiving the desired cooperation, we have conducted searches on (the residences) of directors, the CEO and the official premises" of the exchange.
The ED is also conducting a separate money laundering investigation into Zanmai Labs, the Indian entity operating crypto exchange Wazirx. That investigation also saw the ED raid one of Wazirx's directors.
A CoinSwitch Kuber spokesperson declined to comment when asked about the raid.
