A bipartisan group of US lawmakers has introduced a resolution that encourages the development of blockchain technology and its applications.
The non-binding resolution, which was introduced by Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Representative Tony Cardenas (D-CA), was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
The resolution states that blockchain technology has the potential to improve security and transparency, and that it could help to create new markets and businesses.
It also encourages the US government to promote the development of blockchain technology and to work with businesses and innovators to develop applications for the technology.
“The proposed House resolution from Rep. Kinzinger shows that many in Congress understand that the federal government should adopt policies that encourage blockchain innovations to flourish,” said Jerry Brito, executive director of the nonprofit Coin Center.
The resolution was introduced on July 14, just before Congress began a weeks-long recess ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Both the House and Senate will not reconvene until the first week of September.
A representative from Kinzinger’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
