A Swiss Bitcoin ATM operator is crowdfunding to fight a legal battle against the country's financial markets regulator, which it says is unfairly targeting crypto businesses.
Bity, which operates 45 Bitcoin ATMs in Switzerland, is challenging new rules from the Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) that require users to undergo know-your-customer (KYC) checks if they transact more than 1,000 francs (about $1,150) over a 30-day period.
Bity argues that the rules are too onerous and that FINMA has no jurisdiction over Bitcoin ATMs, which are not considered financial institutions.
The company has raised nearly 20,000 Swiss francs (about $23,000) so far toward its 25,000-franc goal.
