**AAVE community proposes to freeze Busd after the news about Paxos**
The AAVE community has proposed to freeze the Busd stablecoin following the news that Paxos will stop issuing new Busd tokens.
Marc Zeller, the lead of the AAVE integrated group, posted a proposal on the AAVE forum calling for the freezing of Busd reserves on AAVE V2. He argued that the supply of Busd is expected to decline to near-zero over time, and that it is best to "repurpose" the reserves to another type of stablecoin.
"It seems that the most reasonable choice for AAVE right now is to freeze the Busd reserve and call for users to migrate to another stablecoin of the many types of stablecoins available on AAVE," Zeller wrote.
AAVE V2 on Ethereum currently holds about $10.93 million worth of Busd, with about $10.5 million of that held in a vault.
The proposal will go through the standard approval process, after which the AAVE community can begin voting on the optimal options to protect assets in the vault.
Paxos announced on February 11 that it would stop issuing new Busd tokens from February 21, 2023. However, the company has confirmed that the stablecoin is still fully backed by assets corresponding to USD. Investors can still convert busds to USD or other stablecoins of the company, USDP, in the period from now until February 2024.
Following the news, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao tweeted that Binance could stop using Busd as the main trading pair if the problem continued.
"Binance will continue to support Busd for the foreseeable future. We do foresee users migrating to other stablecoins over time. And we will make product adjustments accordingly. EG, move away from using Busd as the main pair for trading, etc," Zhao wrote.
The world's largest cryptocurrency exchange also admitted in January that the management of Busd has encountered "many problems" in the past. Paxos also revealed that it would end its cooperation agreement with Binance because of the "solidarity" surrounding the stablecoin.
