The Colombian government, the World Economic Forum (WEF), and the Ethereum Foundation have joined forces to create a blockchain “bill of rights” that would protect users’ privacy and data sovereignty.
The “Presidio Principles for Responsible Digital Innovation” were developed by the WEF’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in collaboration with Colombia’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies and the Ethereum Foundation.
The principles include a user’s right to “manage consent of data stored in third-party systems, port data between interoperable systems” and “revoke consent for future data collection.”
“We supported the creation of the presidio principles – as well as guidelines and design principles for public institutions – because we wanted to ensure that progress can continue rapidly and responsibly, ensuring that basic foundational characteristics like security and data privacy and data sovereignty are respected,” said Víctor Muñoz, Colombia’s presidential advisor on economic affairs and digital transformation, in a press statement.
Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin encouraged crypto startups to become signatories and join the WEF’s open dialogue. In a press statement, he said he hopes “all builders of Ethereum-based projects – and across the blockchain landscape – will sign on to demonstrate their commitment to the users of their systems and applications.”
