Coinfund, a venture capital firm focused on blockchain technology, has closed its fourth seed fund with $158 million in capital commitments. The fund, which is oversubscribed by 26% from its original target of $125 million, will be used to invest in early-stage crypto startups.
"The market is down, if you look at the NFT space," said Jake Brukhman, co-founder and managing partner of Coinfund. "But we're still seeing a lot of activity in the core infrastructure of the blockchain and in the AI and machine learning space."
Coinfund is one of the few venture capital firms that is still actively investing in blockchain startups at a time when the overall market is cooling down. The firm has raised a total of $550 million since its inception in 2015.
In August of last year, Coinfund launched a $300 million fund dedicated to web3 investments. The firm has also made investments in a number of high-profile crypto projects, including Solana, Avalanche, and Terra.
"We're still very bullish on the long-term potential of the blockchain," said Brukhman. "We believe that this is a generational opportunity."
