Specifically, the exchange has "completed the migration process of $5 billion in US dollar-denominated cryptocurrency (at prices as of December 7, 2018) from our third-generation cold storage infrastructure to our fourth-generation cold storage infrastructure."
The storage system, which Coinbase says is used for all of its cold storage systems, begins with "a process of generating a key that is managed and closely monitored, followed by a distributed system for generating and accepting transactions."
