Coinbase has hired former Bittrex chief compliance and risk officer Maria Schroeder and Crypto.com's Ireland general manager Nana Dinan as its new country director for the U.K. and director of market expansion in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, respectively.
In a blog post announcing the hires, Coinbase said that Schroeder and Dinan will be responsible for driving the company's expansion in their respective regions, as well as working with policymakers and regulators.
"We are thrilled to welcome Maria and Nana to the Coinbase team," said Emilie Choi, president and chief operating officer of Coinbase. "Their deep experience in the crypto industry and proven track records of success make them ideal leaders for our teams in the U.K. and EMEA."
Schroeder was previously chief compliance and risk officer at Bittrex, a cryptocurrency exchange that was founded in 2014. Prior to that, she held various compliance and risk roles at Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.
Dinan was Crypto.com's general manager for Ireland from 2020 to 2022. Prior to that, she held various marketing and business development roles at companies such as Google and TripAdvisor.
Coinbase's expansion in the EMEA region comes at a time when the cryptocurrency market is facing a downturn. The company has also been laying off employees in recent months as part of cost-cutting measures.
