Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, has joined the Giving Pledge, a commitment by billionaires to give away more than half of their wealth to charity.
In a tweet on Thursday, Armstrong said he had signed the pledge because he believes that "once a certain level of wealth is reached, there is little additional utility from spending more on yourself."
He added that he is still early in his journey of discovering how to have the most impact through philanthropy, but that he has already started his first philanthropic effort, GiveCrypto.org, which makes cash transfers to people living in poverty.
The Giving Pledge was founded in 2010 by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, and has since been signed by more than 180 billionaires.
