Bitcoin nodes are different from Bitcoin miners in that they do not compete to share block rewards. Instead, each node stores another immutable copy of the blockchain, which enhances the network security overall.
According to recent data, the number of Bitcoin nodes has recently increased to the highest level of all time, with 11,613 Bitcoin nodes operating on January 20. That number has dropped to 7,260 at the present time.
