Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has shared his thoughts on the best way to purchase cryptocurrencies, saying that it is more cost-effective to convert fiat currency to crypto on exchanges rather than buying directly with a credit card.
In a blog post on July 18, CZ explained that the conversion fee on exchanges is typically much lower than the fees charged by credit card companies. He also noted that credit card purchases of cryptocurrency are often subject to additional scrutiny by banks, which can delay the transaction.
CZ also said that if the development team behind a cryptocurrency project is still holding onto their tokens, it is a good sign that they are committed to the project. Conversely, he said that the purchase (or “buy-back”) of tokens to burn them often indicates that the tokens do not have real-world applications.
“Some exchanges are proud that they can carry out the acquisition of their own tokens to burn. Many people believe this is a good signal. However, this also means that the exchange does not collect a lot of transaction fees in the form of a floor token. Or second, they don't hold any token once they receive and quickly go to the market,” CZ said.
CZ also said that he believes that token burns, along with airdrops, are good signals for a token economy. He explained that token burns help to reduce the number of tokens in circulation, which in turn lowers the network transaction fees.
