**Canadian Tax Scammers Use Bitcoin ATMs to Demand Payments**
Scammers posing as Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) employees are demanding payments in Bitcoin from victims, according to York Regional Police.
The fraudsters have been calling victims and threatening them with arrest for unpaid taxes if they do not send funds using Bitcoin ATMs.
Det. Const. Rob Vingerhoets of the York police financial crimes unit said the Bitcoin ATMs are "legitimate" and that tracking down the fraudsters or recovering lost money may be possible.
"Our main strategy ... is to stop people from becoming victims in the first place," Vingerhoets said.
York police have placed flyers near Bitcoin ATMs to alert the public about potential scams.
The news comes after Durham Regional Police Service in Ontario issued a warning to the public about fraudulent investment schemes involving Bitcoin.
