Crypto exchange Zipmex has filed for bankruptcy protection in Singapore, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
The move comes as Zipmex grapples with liquidity issues stemming from its exposure to crypto lender Babel Finance. Babel froze withdrawals in mid-June amid liquidity pressures relating to overleveraged crypto firms such as Three Arrows Capital and Celsius Network.
Zipmex said that the bankruptcy protection filing will allow it to “focus all our efforts on resolving the liquidity situation, without having to worry about defending potential claims or adverse actions while we are doing so.”
The company added that it has received an investment offer from an interested party, with terms offered in a memorandum of understanding allowing the party to commence due diligence.
Zipmex is the latest crypto firm to be hit by the downturn in the market. In June, Celsius Network froze withdrawals and Three Arrows Capital filed for bankruptcy.
