**Cryptocurrency Funds Approved by Brazilian Regulator**
The Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) has approved the creation of cryptocurrency funds in the country. In a statement, the regulator said that the decision was made in order to allow investors to access the crypto market while paying attention to controls related to the integrity and ownership of the assets.
In order to be part of fund portfolios, the CVM said that cryptocurrency assets will have to follow a set of criteria in line with a new regulatory framework outlined in a law enacted by outgoing president Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday.
Cryptocurrency assets may be part of a fund as long as they are traded in entities authorized by either the Central Bank of Brazil or the CVM, or - in the case of operations abroad - by a local supervisor, the new rule detailed.
The CVM's decision is a major step forward for the cryptocurrency industry in Brazil, and is expected to help to boost the growth of the market in the country.
