### BitGo Fined $53M by CFTC for Anti-Money Laundering Violations
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has fined BitGo $53 million for violating anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. The maximum civil monetary penalty was $53,051,675, the department said.
The CFTC said that BitGo failed to implement and maintain an adequate AML program, and that it failed to file suspicious activity reports (SARs) for certain transactions.
BitGo said in a statement that it "takes its regulatory obligations seriously and has been working closely with the CFTC to address its concerns."
The fine comes as the cryptocurrency industry faces increasing scrutiny from regulators. Last week, it was reported that talks regarding a possible acquisition of BitGo by PayPal had fallen through.
