The New York Supreme Court has granted the two companies exemption from the request to hand over documents to the Attorney General's Office.
The court only requires Bitfinex and Tether to provide records and information about their activities in New York state, and no further requests are required.
Earlier, the two companies' lawyers argued that the New York Attorney General's Office had no jurisdiction over the case because Bitfinex and Tether were not conducting any activities in New York at the time, nor were they providing services to users there.
"This is a complete victory for Bitfinex," said a Bitfinex representative, who also filed a new motion asking the court to dismiss all charges against the company.
