Just over a year after acquiring Multibit, Keepkey CTO Ken Hodler has announced that the startup will no longer maintain the wallet software.
In a blog post yesterday, Hodler said that the code for Multibit is in dire need of a rewrite, especially in light of the recent increase in network fees and upcoming changes to Bitcoin's code aimed at increasing the throughput of transactions.
“The reality is that Multibit is in need of a lot of work,” Hodler wrote. “It has stubborn bugs that have caused us and Multibit users much pain. In the coming weeks, changes to Bitcoin’s code will mean that the Multibit software has fallen still further behind.”
Support for the software will be ending immediately, Hodler said, and he suggested that users move their funds to another wallet.
He concluded the post by thanking the past developers of the wallet software.
“Multibit was a fantastic piece of software in its time, and we want to thank the Multibit developers for making such an important contribution to Bitcoin’s history,” he wrote.
