**Bitcoin price rally may have legs, Mayer multiple suggests**
The Mayer multiple, a popular indicator used to track Bitcoin's price, is flashing similar values to those seen around the cryptocurrency's previous bull runs.
The indicator, which compares Bitcoin's price to its 200-day moving average, is currently at 1.67, just below the 2.4 level that has marked previous tops.
A reading of 2.4 or higher is often seen as a sign that the market is overbought and due for a correction. However, with Bitcoin still trading well below its all-time high of $20,000, some analysts believe that the current rally may still have some legs.
"The Mayer multiple is suggesting that the market is not yet 'euphoric' and that the ongoing rally has legs," said Nischal Shetty, CEO of Mumbai-based crypto exchange Wazirx.
Shetty noted that the recent sharp rise in Bitcoin's price from $10,000 to $18,000 is similar to the surge from $6,000 to $20,000 in November-December 2017. However, he believes that this time around, the rally is being driven by institutional investors rather than retail traders.
"Google Trends data shows that retail interest in Bitcoin is still relatively low," Shetty said. "This suggests that the current rally is not being driven by FOMO (fear of missing out)."
FOMO is often seen as a sign that a market is nearing a top. However, Shetty believes that the current rally is still in its early stages and that Bitcoin could reach $20,000 or higher before a correction occurs.
"I expect retail investors to jump in once prices rise above $20,000," he said.
At press time, Bitcoin is trading at $18,030, representing a 150% year-to-date gain.
