**Cryptocurrency exchanges report surge in UK sign-ups as investors seek 'safe haven'**
British cryptocurrency exchanges have reported a surge in sign-ups from customers looking to "flee to safety" amid the turmoil in the financial markets.
Bitstamp, Kraken and Gemini are all said to have seen a significant increase in demand from UK investors in recent weeks.
"We're seeing an increase in customers in the UK coming to us, with no changes in marketing," said Julian Sawyer, CEO of Bitstamp.
He described the increase as "a flight to safety," comparing it to customers changing bank accounts if they heard their current provider was less secure.
A Kraken spokesperson told CNBC that the share of signups from the UK has "approximately doubled" compared with other markets.
As of the end of June, just six companies had successfully completed the process to register with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and 64 had withdrawn their applications. Gemini entities account for two of the six.
