**SEC Nigeria Warns Binance, Other Crypto Platforms Are Not Registered, Warns Investors**
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria has warned Binance and other cryptocurrency platforms that they are not registered and regulated by the commission, and that their operations in the country are illegal.
The SEC also warned the public to be wary of investing in cryptocurrency assets and other products offered or operated by entities not registered or regulated by the commission.
“The commission again reiterates that the activities of Binance, https://www.binance.com and anys other platform through the company solicits are neither Registered Nor Regulated by the commission and ITS Operations In Nigeria Arlate ILlegal,” the SEC said in a statement.
The regulator ordered all platform providers affiliated with crypto to stop reaching out to Nigerian investors.
The SEC said last year it views all cryptocurrencies as securities. The country has been processing crypto exchange applications to register on a trial basis, but will not complete registration until an agreement is reached with the Central Bank of Nigeria, which has blocked local financial institutions from interacting with cryptocurrency platforms.
